SUMMARY:Safe and Adaptive Robotics: From Research Breakthroughs to Industrial Reality
DESCRIPTION:Date: June 10\, 2026 | University of Antwerp | Hybrid Event | Sign up form \nHow can autonomous robots safely adapt to unexpected situations while operating in real-world environments?\nIn this session\, researchers from the RoboSAPIENS Horizon Europe project will present the latest advances in safe and trustworthy robotic self-adaptation\, focusing on technologies that allow robots\nto operate reliably in dynamic and unpredictable conditions. \nRoboSAPIENS is a Horizon Europe research project launched in 2024\, bringing together a consortium of 10 partners from across Europe\, including universities\, research institutes\, technology providers and industrial end users. The project aims to develop the foundations for trustworthy robotic self-adaptation\, enabling robots to safely adjust their behaviour when facing unforeseen situations while continuing to operate reliably. \nTo achieve this\, RoboSAPIENS is developing new approaches for monitoring\, validating and managing robotic behaviour at runtime\, ensuring that adaptive robotic systems remain safe\, transparent and dependable in complex environments. \nThe session will introduce key methods being developed within RoboSAPIENS\, including: \n\nrun time verification for autonomous robots\nanomaly detection\nuncertainty quantification in robotic decision-making\napproaches to ensuring safety during robotic adaptation\n\nThrough these technologies\, RoboSAPIENS aims to enable the next generation of autonomous robotic systems capable of adapting to unforeseen changes while maintaining safety and performance. \nThe session will provide an accessible overview of these developments and discuss their relevance for industrial robotics\, manufacturing environments and real-world applications. \nHybrid Session Format \nThis event will take place on 10th June 2026 at the University of Antwerp (University of Antwerp\, Paardenmarkt 94\, room s.O.130) and will be organised as a hybrid session\, allowing participants to join either in person or online. \n\nParticipants attending in person will have the opportunity to join from 11:30 onwards\, meet members of the RoboSAPIENS consortium\, and explore the project’s technologies in a more interactive way\, including the possibility to see live demonstrations.\nFrom 12:00 to 13:00\, the main workshop session will take place online\, allowing participants to join remotely and follow the presentations and discussion.\nAfter the session\, coffee and a light lunch will be available for those attending onsite\, offering an informal opportunity to continue the conversation with the speakers and consortium partners.\n\nAgenda \n11:30 – Onsite networking and live demonstration (in person)\n12:00 – 13:00 Hybrid workshop session \n\nIntroduction to RoboSAPIENS and the challenge of safe\nautonomy\nKey technologies for trustworthy robotic adaptation\nIndustrial perspectives and application domains\nQ&A\n\n13:00 – Networking coffee & snack lunch (onsite participants) \nLet us know how you are planning to attend! \nSign up now \nRoboSAPIENS is proud to collaborate with Flanders Make for this webinar\, hosted at the University of Antwerp. \nAs a key player in the Flemish innovation ecosystem\, Flanders Make works closely with leading academic institutions in the region\, including the University of Antwerp\, to accelerate the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies. This strong local connection makes them a natural partner to help bring RoboSAPIENS research closer to industry and real-world applications.
